Legal Guide for Grandparents

"Oregon’s Legal Guide for Grandparents and Other Relatives Raising Children"

This 84-page booklet is a 2009 publication by AARP Oregon, Legal Aid Services of Oregon and Oregon Law Center. It looks at a range of problems faced by grandparents and other relatives, and the laws that apply in those situations.

The guide starts with simple issues faced by relatives who are regularly in contact with their grandchildren, moves on to the problem of getting access to grandchildren when a parent does not encourage or support contact, and then looks at situations where grandparents must take over — temporarily or permanently — the job of parenting their grandchildren.
